Transfers to an alternative session/ day are at the discretion of Funky String Art . 

You may also find a replacement (please email details to  info@funkystringart.co.uk) to book your String Art place in which case we will make a full refund of your fee after the booked session has occurred.

If a session is cancelled by Funky String Art, you will be offered a refund or the option to reschedule to an alternative string art class.

Laurie O'Garro is a teacher, with thirty years' experience working with children, teenagers and adults.   

Since 2014, Laurie has specialised in a craft called 'string art'. From symbols to intricate geometric shapes, Christmas trees and sugar skulls, Laurie encourages her students to produce mounted pieces and greetings cards. Her mission is to bring crafting to a new generation while building self-confidence, supporting their wellbeing and enhancing their skills. Her vision is to support people to uncover their creativity and encourage them to make it a lifelong pursuit. 

Laurie run string art classes for the Sharjah Book Authority in the UAE, Imperial College London and Chelsea Theatre, as well as Open Art Spaces, Writerz 'n Scribez on behalf of the London Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and the London Borough of Ealing.

Funky String Art

Laurie O’Garro is a teacher from London, UK. She is passionate about sharing with the next generation a craft she learned as a child and uses her teaching skills to help children create some very complicated-looking pattern.   

Laurie’s chosen art form is one that is rarely – if ever – seen, at least in the UK.  In 2014, she rediscovered parabolic curves, a craft she’d learned in primary school.  Laurie took this one step further and started transferring designs on to card and, using coloured threads,  produced tactile greetings cards. From there, Laurie began to make a range of cards, and since the summer of 2019, she has been delivering birthday parties and playdates for children and craft classes for adults.

Almost without fail, participants doing string art for the first time use words like ‘therapeutic’, ‘calming’ and ‘meditative’. They love the fact that they can enter their own world and leave their cares at the door. 

String art, as with any crafting activity, is beneficial for everyone, and can support those who suffer from anxiety. It’s impossible to worry when you’re engaged in this quiet activity so, for a few hours, participants get some well-needed respite from their concerns.

String art is London’s best kept secret. Be one of the few people in the UK capital to get in on this creative act!

Laurie O'Garro is a teacher, with over twenty years' experience working with children, teenagers and adults.  

Since 2014, Laurie has specialised in a craft called 'string art'. From symbols to intricate geometric shapes, Laurie produces pieces large enough to be mounted on the wall and small enough to be given away as greetings cards.

Laurie loves running classes for children, whom she challenges to do their neatest, most precise work. String art is great for improving fine motor skills, and Laurie supports children to improve their ruler work when preparing make a piece of wall art.

Take part in this rarely-seen class and be mesmerised and impressed by your own personal work of art. Can't attend a class in person, then buy a kit and follow along with one of Laurie's specially made YouTube tutorials.  Alternatively, look out for her online classes (book at least 10 days before the class date so the kit can be sent out in good time).

Funky String Art Craft Kits

String art classes are held in relaxing surroundings, usually a cafe - preferably independently owned - that can provide with coffee or tea and a selection of scrumptious cakes!

Participants will choose between making a card or a mounted piece that will look beautiful on their wall.

Classes last between two-and-a-half and three hours, giving participants enough time to complete their project and have a break in between.
